A team from Kosovo’s Security Force has begun a mission to Gaza as part of an international peacekeeping effort aimed at stabilising the territory following the recent conflict.

Officials said the delegation will conduct an initial assessment and coordinate deployment activities for a Kosovo contingent under the International Stabilization Forces (ISF), operating within a broader peace framework supported by multiple countries.

During the visit, the team held meetings with local authorities and representatives of civil-military coordination structures overseeing operations in Gaza, focusing on integration, joint operations and logistical support.

Part of international effort

Kosovo is among a group of countries, including Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan and Albania, that have committed to contributing personnel to the mission.

The deployment follows authorisation by Kosovo’s leadership and approval by parliament earlier this month.

The international force is expected to monitor a ceasefire and support security stabilisation in Gaza, where conflict escalated after the October 2023 attacks by Hamas on Israel and the subsequent Israeli military response.

Post-conflict stabilisation

The conflict resulted in significant casualties, widespread destruction and a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, prompting international efforts to establish a stabilisation mechanism.

Officials say the peacekeeping mission is part of a broader package aimed at securing long-term stability and facilitating post-conflict recovery.

Analysts note that Kosovo’s participation reflects its growing role in international security missions, despite its relatively small military capacity.
