BEIJING, May 25 (BV)— Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Monday that relations between Serbia and China were at their highest level, during talks in Beijing with Wang Huning, chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Vučić said Serbia had “absolute trust” in the People’s Republic of China and had remained loyal to Beijing despite international pressure.

“Serbian-Chinese relations are at the highest level,” Vučić said. “We have absolute trust in the People’s Republic of China.”

He described China as a new center of global stability and said Beijing’s role was especially important for countries of the Global South seeking protection through international law.

Vučić said Serbia, despite being a small country, had maintained a principled position based on respect for international public law and the United Nations Charter.

He also said Serbia remained one of Europe’s fastest-growing economies despite external pressure and what he described as attempts at a “color revolution” in the country.

Wang praised Vučić as an “exceptional statesman” and an old friend of the Chinese people, saying the friendship between Serbia and China was becoming stronger.

“Our iron friendship is putting down ever deeper roots among our peoples,” Wang said.

Wang recalled Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Serbia in 2024, describing it as historic and saying Xi and Vučić had made strategic decisions to build a Serbia-China community with a shared future in a new era.

He said Xi was expected to hold detailed talks with Vučić later in the day to agree on a new roadmap for bilateral cooperation.

Vučić said he had previously met Wang in 2019 and 2023 and had learned from him about international relations and how Serbia should position itself in a changing world.

The visit comes as Serbia continues to balance its formal European Union path with deepening strategic, economic and political ties with China and Russia.

China has become one of Serbia’s most important infrastructure and investment partners, while Belgrade has repeatedly praised Beijing’s position on Kosovo and its support in international forums.
