Greece’s Tourism Ministry has introduced a new tourism infrastructure initiative, the “Sustainable Mountain Tourism Destination,” aimed at enhancing mountain tourism and revitalizing mountainous regions.
A ministerial decision by Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni, published in the Government Gazette, outlines plans for year-round operation of ski resorts, mountain refuges, and hotels within designated areas.
The initiative will adhere to local spatial and urban planning regulations, as well as environmental protection frameworks. It follows recent measures, including a support program for ski resorts under the recovery fund and legislation allowing their year-round operation. The plan is part of a broader strategy to develop mountain tourism and extend the tourist season.
