The Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Amer Kapetanović, met Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu in Bucharest on Tuesday to discuss cooperation during Romania’s chairmanship of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) and ways to advance practical regional initiatives.
The talks focused on the priorities of Romania’s SEECP presidency, including strengthening regional cooperation, resilience, sustainable development and European integration. The two officials also discussed implementing the South East Europe 2030 Strategy, the Common Regional Market and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.
“Bucharest assumes the SEECP Chairmanship at a time when regional cooperation must be both ambitious and practical. The region needs stronger connectivity, more resilient economies, safer societies and opportunities that people can recognise in their everyday lives,” Kapetanović said.
Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu reaffirmed her country’s commitment to a results-oriented chairmanship, stressing the importance of close cooperation with the RCC to advance projects in economic development, connectivity, security, resilience and youth opportunities.
During his visit, Kapetanović also met Secretary of State for European Affairs, the Middle East and Africa Clara Staicu to discuss joint activities under Romania’s SEECP chairmanship and closer institutional cooperation.
The RCC delegation later participated in a roundtable with representatives of Romanian ministries, parliament and public institutions, covering topics including digitalisation, tourism, finance, defence, emergency management, labour, security, strategic communication, disaster preparedness, hybrid threats and youth policy.
Participants also discussed initiatives that could be promoted during Romania’s one-year SEECP chairmanship, with a focus on projects capable of delivering measurable results and strengthening institutional cooperation across South East Europe.
Romania assumed the rotating SEECP chairmanship following the June 2026 summit in Sofia, where regional leaders endorsed the RCC Annual Report and the mid-term update of the South East Europe 2030 Strategy, reaffirming their commitment to regional cooperation, stability and sustainable development.
