Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with Hungary’s incoming prime minister Peter Magyar, discussing bilateral relations and regional developments following his election victory.

During the call, Erdogan said relations between Türkiye and Hungary draw strength from “shared history and culture” and expressed confidence that cooperation would deepen in the coming period, according to a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening the existing strategic partnership and said both countries aim to expand cooperation both bilaterally and on international platforms.

Erdogan highlighted that the two NATO allies contribute to “regional and global peace,” underlining the role of the alliance in maintaining stability.

The Turkish president congratulated Magyar on his victory in Hungary’s recent parliamentary elections, in which his Tisza party secured a decisive lead over incumbent Viktor Orban, who conceded defeat.

The call signals Ankara’s intention to maintain and further develop ties with Budapest amid shifting political dynamics in Hungary and broader geopolitical tensions in Europe.
