Cyprus and Serbia pledged on Friday to deepen cooperation in trade and tourism, as their presidents hailed the countries’ strong bilateral ties during a meeting in Belgrade.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić expressed confidence that the talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides would lead to closer cooperation in the near future, according to a statement from Christodoulides’ office.
Christodoulides reaffirmed Cyprus’ commitment to supporting Serbia’s path towards European Union membership, particularly during Cyprus’ upcoming EU presidency in the first half of 2026.
On the issue of Kosovo, Christodoulides said Cyprus “fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia,” aligning with its longstanding position.
He also announced Cyprus’ participation in the World Expo 2027, which will be hosted by Belgrade.
Welcoming Christodoulides, Vučić described him as a “brother” and “friend,” telling Cypriots they should feel “at home” in Serbia.
“We are profoundly grateful to Cyprus, and to you personally, for supporting Serbia’s EU path and for developing our bilateral cooperation across various fields,” Vučić said.
He added that cooperation in agriculture, innovation, and military technology should be further strengthened, expressing hope the meeting would contribute to deeper ties.
Vučić also thanked Cyprus for supporting Serbia’s territorial integrity and for adhering to the UN Charter and related resolutions.
