Part of Thessaloniki’s inner ring road will close overnight on Monday because of construction work on the new Flyover project, with traffic towards Halkidiki and the airport redirected through city streets.
The complete closure will remain in force from 11 p.m. on August 24 until 5 a.m. on August 25, according to Greek traffic police.
It will cover the eastbound section between the K5 interchange near Efkarpia and the K6 interchange near Meteora. Drivers will also be unable to enter the ring road through access ramps near hospitals in the area.
Vehicles arriving from the western section of the ring road will be required to leave at the Efkarpia exit.
Traffic will then be redirected along local roads towards Stratou Avenue and central Thessaloniki. Drivers will subsequently be able to reconnect with routes leading to Halkidiki and Thessaloniki’s Macedonia Airport.
The closure could particularly affect travellers from North Macedonia heading towards Halkidiki or catching late-night and early-morning flights.
The opposite direction from Thessaloniki towards the Evzoni-Bogorodica border crossing will remain open.
Drivers travelling south are advised to depart earlier because traffic diversions could cause congestion and delays at intersections across the city.
