Thousands of Muslim worshippers gathered in central Tirana on Saturday to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan with prayers and messages of peace and unity.
The prayer ceremony, held at Skanderbeg Square, was organized by the Muslim Community of Albania and attended by senior religious leaders, including the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.
Speaking alongside the head of the Albanian Muslim Community, Bujar Spahiu, Al-Issa praised Albania as a global example of interfaith harmony and coexistence.
“Albanian society demonstrates a commendable model of religious tolerance that stems from deeply rooted values and has been passed down through generations,” Al-Issa said.
He noted that, amid global conflicts often driven by religious or cultural differences, the Albanian example could serve as a guide. “The world needs to follow this remarkable example of coexistence,” he added, urging young generations to carry forward these values.
Spahiu highlighted the spiritual significance of Eid, calling it a bridge between the teachings of Ramadan and everyday life. “This day reminds us of unity, mercy and justice. We are one nation,” he said.
Eid al-Fitr, known in Albanian as Fitër Bajrami, is one of the most important religious holidays in Islam and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide at the conclusion of Ramadan.
