The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, has said that Montenegrin wines are an important national brand, adding that Montenegro must do everything it can to support the wine industry, MINA reported.

“The designation of a day to celebrate our indigenous grape variety, Kratošija, is an important step in promoting Montenegrin viticulture and preserving national identity through one of the most significant symbols of Montenegro’s wine history and culture,” said Milatovic.

Today, he met with representatives of the Order of Wine Knights of Montenegro on the occasion of the inauguration of the Kratošija Day, dedicated to the indigenous grape variety that has been cultivated in Montenegro for centuries.

The representatives of the Order said that Montenegro’s comparative advantage lies in wine production, which they see as a serious opportunity for the country to position itself as the country of origin and a quality destination on the global wine map, considering the significance of indigenous grape varieties.

They added that there are not many countries that can boast such a long tradition of wine production.

Kratošija Day will be inaugurated by adopting a declaration under the patronage of the President of Montenegro.
