A Kosovo police officer on Tuesday described the September 2023 attack in Banjska as unprecedented in his two decades of service, during testimony before a judicial panel in Mitrovica.
Halim Behramaj, an investigative officer in the traffic unit, appeared as a witness for the Special Prosecutor’s Office and said that around 2:00 a.m. on the day of the attack, officers were alerted via radio communication that a barricade had been set up in the village of Banjska.
Behramaj told prosecutors that based on the intensity and variation of the gunfire, it was clear the assault was carried out by an organized group using weapons of different calibers.
“In my 21 years with the Kosovo Police, I have never experienced an attack like this,” he said in response to questions from Special Prosecutor Naim Abazi.
Asked whether he felt harmed in the case, Behramaj responded that he felt personally affected by the killing of police corporal Afrim Bunjaku during the attack.
On September 11, 2024, the Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo filed an indictment against Milan Radoičić and 44 others in connection with the September 24, 2023, assault in Banjska, Zvečan, which left Bunjaku dead. The defendants face charges of committing a terrorist act, serious crimes against the constitutional order and security of the Republic of Kosovo, facilitating and financing terrorism, and money laundering.
