Bulgaria’s caretaker government is expected to approve a package of measures to support the transport sector, hit by rising fuel prices, state broadcaster BNT reported.

The cabinet is set to allocate an additional €18 million to subsidize intercity bus services, along with €2.5 million to increase compensation for student transport.

The measures were discussed at a meeting between government officials and representatives of the transport industry, as operators face mounting costs linked to higher fuel prices.

The proposed package also includes doubling state aid for the heavy transport sector from €25 million to €50 million, easing leasing payments for transport companies until the end of the year, and postponing planned increases in road tolls for trucks and buses by several months.

Authorities say the steps aim to mitigate the impact of the energy price surge on transport operators and prevent disruptions in passenger services.
