TIRANA, – Albania’s Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) on Wednesday responded to an executive order by U.S. President Donald Trump suspending all U.S. government support funds, which also affects SPAK.
In an official statement, SPAK emphasized its independence and stated that it is entirely funded by the state budget.
SPAK Statement:
“We have been informed of the U.S. government’s executive order to halt the implementation of international assistance programs.
SPAK is an independent institution, fully supported by the state budget. Law No. 115 of 2024, ‘On the Management of the Budgetary System of the Republic of Albania,’ includes the approved budget for the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime for 2025.
Since its establishment, SPAK and the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH) have received support from international partners, including the United States, through missions such as OPDAT, ICITAP, DEA, and the FBI.
Their support has been crucial in strengthening SPAK’s work, primarily through training programs, study visits, technical equipment, and case management systems,” the statement said.
