The number of foreign tourists visiting Türkiye rose 8.01% in April compared with the same month a year earlier, reaching just over 3.9 million, official data showed on Friday, with Istanbul remaining the top destination.
“According to the provisional data from the General Directorate of Security, the number of foreigners visiting our country in April 2025 surged 8.01% to 3.9 million,” the Culture and Tourism Ministry said in a written statement.
Germany accounted for the largest share of foreign visitors during the month, followed by Russia, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria and Iran.
Some 571,042 German nationals visited Türkiye in April, marking a 31.3% increase from a year earlier. Russians ranked second with 375,820 arrivals.
Germany made up 14.64% of total arrivals in April, while Russia accounted for 9.64% and the UK 9.59%.
In the January–April period, total foreign arrivals edged down 0.6% year-on-year to 10.59 million. Including Turkish citizens residing abroad, the figure reached 12.74 million, the ministry said.
Germany also led in the four-month tally, with 1.14 million visitors, followed by Russia with 977,152 and Iran with 946,472. Bulgaria and the UK rounded out the top five.
Türkiye hosted 52.6 million foreign visitors in 2024, up nearly 7% from the previous year, generating $61.1 billion in tourism revenue.
Tourism is a key sector for the Turkish economy, contributing significantly to gross domestic product.
