Türkiye will continue to strengthen its role within NATO by relying on its domestic defense industry, Defense Industries Secretary Haluk Gorgun said.
Speaking after talks with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the IISS Prague Defense Summit, Gorgun highlighted the capacity of Türkiye’s defense sector, which he described as a “robust ecosystem” of more than 3,500 companies and over 100,000 employees.
“Our defense industry, praised once again by the Secretary-General, makes a significant contribution to NATO’s deterrence,” Gorgun wrote on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal.
He said discussions focused on the agility of Türkiye’s Defense Industries Secretariat, its coordination capacity, and the potential of indigenous technologies to enhance the alliance’s defense capabilities.
“Türkiye will not only fulfill its responsibilities within NATO but will also contribute to the alliance’s future with its indigenous and national capabilities,” Gorgun added.
The secretary said Türkiye will also share its views on Europe’s defense vision at a panel titled The Future Face of European Defense Industry during the Prague summit.
