U.S. President Donald Trump praised Kosovo’s outgoing president Vjosa Osmani in a formal letter marking the end of her mandate, highlighting joint achievements and signalling continued cooperation.
“Thank you for your very kind letter. I continue to admire your bold and decisive leadership on behalf of the Kosovar people,” Trump wrote in the letter dated April 8.
He said the two sides had “accomplished a great deal together in a short period of time,” pointing in particular to cooperation within the Board of Peace initiative.
“Kosovo’s participation in this groundbreaking initiative will play a tremendous role in ending conflicts across the globe, while fostering freedom and prosperity for both of our people,” he said.
Trump said Osmani would leave “an important legacy” shaping Kosovo, the Balkan region and Europe.
“You have always been a reliable friend and partner to the United States, and I look forward to our continued dialogue in the years ahead,” he wrote.
He added that the First Lady joined in sending “best wishes for your continued success.”
Osmani confirmed receiving the letter and welcomed the message.
“I thank President Trump for the letter and for the appreciation of our work,” she said.
“We welcome the continuation of cooperation in the years ahead,” she added.
