The deadline for registering children in public kindergartens and nurseries in Tirana has been extended until June 30, following a cyberattack that disrupted the municipality’s online services.
Applications must now be submitted in person at the General Directorate of Nurseries and Kindergartens on “Barrikadave” Street, as the online platform e-femijet.tirana.al remains offline.
The delay comes after the hacking group “Homeland Justice” posted a video on Telegram claiming responsibility for breaching the Tirana municipality’s servers. The video, accompanied by footage of the municipality building, alleged that the hackers had taken down the city’s services in retaliation for Albania’s sheltering of the Iranian opposition group MEK.
The group claimed to have deleted municipal servers and extracted data, sharing screenshots of the municipality’s website before and after the cyberattack. “All these activities were carried out by Tirana Municipality. Today they are being punished for their actions,” the hackers wrote.
In a public notice, the municipality said families who were unable to apply online from June 2 to 20 will be able to register children or request transitions from nurseries to kindergartens on June 25, 26, 27, and 30. The full list of requirements and documentation is available at the General Directorate.
