Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić visited the construction site of Expo 2027 in Belgrade on Saturday, saying that despite political tensions and public criticism, the country remains on track to complete the ambitious project.
In a video message posted on his Instagram account “buducnostsrbijeav” (“the future of Serbia AV”), Vučić appeared on-site, pointing to key areas under construction and reaffirming Serbia’s commitment to hosting the international event.
“Despite the noise, the shouting, and harsh words from those who wish to tear Serbia down, I came here to show the people of Serbia the progress we are making,” Vučić said. “Today is Holy Saturday, and instead of responding to political attacks, I decided to show the public what we’re doing.”
Vučić mentioned recent criticism from Marta Kos, a Slovenian politician and former diplomat, as well as from local opposition groups. Without naming specific allegations, he described the pushback as politically motivated attempts to hinder national development.
Expo 2027 is seen as a flagship infrastructure project for Serbia, with completion targeted by December 1, 2026. Vučić said the central exhibition area is progressing well, pointing out locations designated for the national pavilion, a stadium, and residential zones.
Belgrade won the bid to host Expo 2027 last year, marking a major international recognition for Serbia’s infrastructure ambitions. The event is expected to draw millions of visitors and serve as a platform to boost tourism, investment, and Serbia’s international profile.
