Romania will continue to serve as a logistics hub for Ukraine in its ongoing fight against Russian aggression, acting President Ilie Bolojan said on Thursday after a European Council meeting.
“We agreed to continue supporting Ukraine financially and with ammunition, ensuring it can withstand the aggressors and prevent the front from collapsing,” Bolojan told a press conference. “When a ceasefire is finally reached — and we hope it will be soon — it must lead to lasting stability and peace, not just a temporary truce.”
Bolojan welcomed the joint statement issued by the United States and Ukraine following their recent meeting, noting that Romania’s role as a logistical center is also a matter of national security.
“Maintaining Ukraine’s stability directly supports Romania as well, keeping the danger away from our borders,” he added.
Bolojan confirmed Romania’s participation in next week’s Ukraine-focused summit in Paris.
“Discussions will continue regarding Europe’s defence plans and security guarantees for Ukraine after a ceasefire is reached,” he said. “While Romania will not send troops to Ukraine in any form, we will take part in all discussions, including technical military planning, ensuring our General Staff stays informed.”
The European Council meeting took place in Brussels on Thursday.
