A magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck central Albania on Wednesday, with no immediate reports of injuries or material damage, the Institute of Geosciences at the Polytechnic University of Tirana said.

The earthquake occurred at 12:44 p.m. local time at a depth of about 10 kilometres.

Its epicentre was located approximately eight kilometres northeast of Lushnja and 29 kilometres southwest of Elbasan.

Authorities had not reported any casualties or damage in the immediate aftermath of the tremor.

Albania lies in a seismically active part of the Balkans and regularly records earthquakes of low to moderate magnitude.
