A pilot was rescued after an Air Tractor firefighting aircraft suffered engine trouble and made an emergency landing in the Aegean Sea, Greek media reported.
The chartered aircraft came down in waters near Valti late on Sunday afternoon after the pilot reported a technical problem.
A nearby fishing boat was the first vessel to reach the scene. Its crew pulled the pilot from the water and brought him to safety.
Three Greek Coast Guard vessels were also dispatched to the area after authorities received the emergency report.
No casualties were reported.
The incident occurred as Greece battles serious wildfires and relies heavily on aircraft and helicopters to contain the flames.
Greek media reported two other accidents involving firefighting helicopters this summer. In one incident, a helicopter crashed into a lake while collecting water, but its pilots survived.
In a separate incident, two helicopters reportedly collided, causing one to crash and killing two crew members.
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the Air Tractor’s engine failure and emergency landing.
