Alternative Montenegro has urged citizens to boycott all shopping on Friday as part of a global economic protest against rising inequality.

The non-governmental organization (NGO) said the retail boycott, which began a month ago in Croatia and later spread to Montenegro and other Balkan countries, had now gained momentum worldwide.

“On Friday, the global boycott will be joined by the United States, as well as several European nations, including Romania, Slovakia, and Bulgaria,” Alternative Montenegro said in a Facebook post. “The movement is spreading so rapidly that we expect nearly half the world’s countries to take part, protesting against the growing wealth gap and declining living standards.”

In collaboration with organizations from Serbia and Croatia, the NGO is calling on Montenegrins to refrain from shopping in any form on Friday.

“A clear message must be sent in Montenegro and globally – that citizens have the power to decide,” the group said.
