The Italian Navy’s tall ship Amerigo Vespucci, often described as one of the most beautiful ships in the world, will dock at the port of Durrës on April 9-10 as part of its global tour.
Durrës Mayor Emiriana Sako announced the visit on social media, saying the ship will be open to the public from 14:00 to 20:30 on both days.
“This ship is a symbol of Italian maritime heritage,” Sako said. “Its stop in Durrës is part of a broader effort to promote Italian culture.”
The vessel’s visit coincides with the promotional events surrounding the Giro d’Italia. On board, a dedicated space will exhibit the “Senza Fine” trophy, ahead of the cycling race’s Grande Partenza (Grand Start) in Albania, which will host the first three stages.
A presentation event will be held aboard the ship, attended by around 50 guests from institutions and the media. Scheduled speakers include the ship’s commander, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, RCS Sports & Events CEO Paolo Bellino, and representatives from Italy’s Ministry of Defense and Navy, along with the Italian ambassador to Albania.
Commissioned in 1931, the Amerigo Vespucci serves as a training vessel for the Italian Navy. Her home port is La Spezia, Italy.
