Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu urged citizens to take to the streets in defense of democracy on Sunday, denouncing an ongoing judicial process as a “political execution.”
“Dear citizens, today Türkiye woke up to a great betrayal. The judicial process underway is not a legal procedure — it is a complete travesty of justice,” İmamoğlu said in a statement.
He called on the public to “take responsibility and join the fight for justice,” framing the moment as crucial for “the future of our nation and our children.”
“For Türkiye’s future, cast your vote today. Then, raise your voice by gathering at Istanbul’s Saraçhane and in democracy squares across our provinces,” he urged.
İmamoğlu described the day as “one to stand up against those who steal the will of the people,” calling for unity: “No one left behind — all together.”
