Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, during his participation in the Dubrovnik Forum 2025, conveyed a clear message: The Western Balkans can no longer be treated as the periphery of the continent, but are an essential part of Europe’s strategic future.

In the presence of senior representatives from the region, Europe and beyond – including the US, the Gulf, Brazil and Africa – Minister Hasani stressed that in times of uncertainty and geopolitical rivalries, trust, transparency and transformation are not choices, but necessities, reports rtsh.al.

“Albania is not a consumer of security, it is a contributor. We are not waiting, we are moving forward,” Hasani emphasized, underlining the country’s active role in maintaining regional stability.

The Minister further elaborated on Albania’s progress on the path towards the European Union, noting that the country has already opened four negotiating chapters, including the foundation chapters and the internal market. He reiterated that the path towards the EU is strategic, irreversible and based on sustainable reforms.

During his speech, Hasani warned that delays in the enlargement process create gaps that are easily exploited by authoritarian actors. In this context, he welcomed the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans as a concrete opportunity to accelerate integration.

“Europe will not be complete without the Western Balkans. And the Western Balkans will not be complete without a worthy place in the European family,” Minister Hasani concluded, emphasizing the mutual importance of integration./rtsh.al/
