Four people injured in a shooting this week near a German court – where a man is on trial accused of murdering a former boxer – are now out of mortal danger.
The four are on the road to recovery, a police spokeswoman said on Friday.
On Wednesday, shots were fired near the regional court in the western city of Bielefeld, where the trial is being held for the murder of professional boxer Besar Nimani.
According to police and prosecutors, four men aged between 23 and 63 were injured. Some of them are relatives or close associates of the 34-year-old accused of murdering the boxer.
Earlier on Friday, the suspect in Wednesday’s shooting turned himself in to the police, the homicide division said in a statement. He was wanted on four counts of attempted murder.
The man has not provided any information about the incident, the statement added. He is expected to be brought before a magistrate later on Friday.
Police have also located a possible weapon used in the attack, though no further details about it have been disclosed.
Nimani was killed in Bielefeld last March after being ambushed by two men, according to the Bielefeld public prosecutor’s office. The men allegedly fired 16 shots at Nimani, killing him at the scene. A motive has not yet been determined.
