Eight people were killed and at least 26 others injured when a passenger bus veered off the road in Turkey’s southern Antalya province on Sunday, local authorities said.

The accident occurred in the Dosemealti district, northwest of Antalya city. Footage aired by state broadcaster TRT showed the bus overturned at the scene.

Antalya Governor Hulusi Sahin said several of the injured were in critical condition. The DHA news agency reported that some passengers were thrown from the vehicle on impact.

The bus was travelling overnight from Tekirdag, in northwestern Turkey, to Antalya, authorities said.

Officials said adverse weather conditions were suspected to have contributed to the crash, though an investigation was continuing.
