The President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has largely been a failed project over the past 30 years, citing deep ethnic divisions as the main cause of instability and mass emigration.
“The peoples in BiH – Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs – do not want to live in the same country. These factors make BiH dysfunctional and are the main reason why so many people are leaving,” Dodik told the American magazine The American Conservative, as reported by RTRS.
Dodik criticized the High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt, accusing him of imposing unilateral decisions with the support of the Bosniak side, which, according to him, leads to the creation of a unitary BiH and threatens the existence of Republika Srpska.
He also accused U.S. Democratic administrations of “continuously working to undermine the Dayton Peace Agreement” since the end of the war in 1995.
“International interventionism led by (U.S. President Joseph) Biden and other neoconservatives in Washington is the only thing that hasn’t failed in BiH,” Dodik said.
Dodik expressed willingness to cooperate with Donald Trump’s administration, as well as Elon Musk’s Government Efficiency Department, in future investigations into alleged corruption related to USAID programs in BiH.
“Where did $250 million of the $402 million that BiH received through USAID programs go? What was it spent on? Why did U.S. taxpayers have to finance the nation-building process in BiH, including sponsoring the Office of the High Representative?” Dodik asked.
He said he agrees with former Trump administration officials who called USAID a “criminal organization,” claiming that most of the funds were directed toward political projects and corruption rather than the development of local communities.
“I know that a USAID official owned two consulting firms registered at the same address in Washington and that through them, he managed USAID grants for BiH, particularly in the judicial sector,” Dodik concluded.
