The number of illegal border crossings into Croatia has dropped by more than 60% so far this year, Interior Minister Davor Božinović said on Thursday, attributing the decline to enhanced efforts by police forces.
“The Interior Ministry will continue to strengthen border controls and adapt tactical and operational procedures,” Božinović said at an event marking Open Day and Sports Day at the Police Academy in Zagreb. “We won’t go into public detail, but those challenging our efforts understand the message.”
Božinović also addressed renewed indictments from Bosnia and Herzegovina targeting Croatian war commanders.
“This government is committed to protecting the dignity of Croatian war veterans and defending Croatia’s national interests,” he said. “There is no cause for concern. We’re seeing developments that may differ from what was communicated earlier.”
Asked about specific government measures in response to the indictments, Božinović said discussions were ongoing but stressed that “certain matters cannot be disclosed publicly.”
