European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos visited Cetinje today to pay her respects to the victims of the recent tragic shooting that claimed 13 lives, including two children.

Accompanied by the Mayor of Cetinje, Nikola Djuraskovic, Commissioner Kos lit candles in front of the Villa of Lovćen, offering heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the devastating event.

Addressing the tragedy, Commissioner Kos reaffirmed the European Union’s solidarity with the people of Cetinje and its commitment to tackling shared challenges. She emphasized the EU’s dedication to working with Montenegrin authorities to combat the illegal trade in weapons and to support the town’s economic and social development.

“Cetinje, you are not alone,” she said. “Let this moment of sorrow remind us of the strength of unity—within your community, Montenegro, and the wider European family. Together, we will overcome challenges and work toward a brighter future for Cetinje.”

Commissioner Kos also highlighted Cetinje’s historical and cultural importance as a symbol of Europe’s heritage. Reflecting on recent demonstrations of solidarity, she added, “Your recent marches in support of Ukraine moved us deeply, showing Cetinje’s unwavering commitment to European values. This city embodies resilience, cultural richness, and solidarity—values at the core of the European Union.”

The visit underscores the EU’s ongoing partnership with Montenegro and its support for Cetinje during this difficult time.
