BELGRADE, July 21 (BV) – Passenger services on the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway are expected to begin within the next one or two months, with the 2026/27 timetable including eight daily departures to Budapest and the restoration of direct rail connections between Belgrade and Vienna.
Under the proposed schedule, two pairs of EuroCity trains operated by Hungary’s MAV will continue beyond Budapest to Vienna. The EC Avala and EC Ivo Andrić services will connect Belgrade Centre (Prokop), Subotica, Kelebija, Budapest Keleti and Vienna Westbahnhof.
The journey between Belgrade and Vienna is expected to take around 7 hours and 15 minutes, nearly two hours faster than the current bus service.
The timetable also includes two non-stop Soko high-speed trains between Belgrade and Budapest. The fastest service is expected to complete the journey in approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes, while regular services with intermediate stops will take around 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Additional trains will stop briefly in Novi Sad, Vrbas and Bačka Topola, offering more connections for passengers traveling within Serbia.
The launch of the line is expected to almost halve travel times between Belgrade and Budapest compared with current bus services, strengthening rail connectivity between Serbia, Hungary and Austria.
