Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday that his government remains fully committed to completing European Union accession negotiations by 2027, as Albania opened another cluster of chapters during the fourth Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels.

Rama made the remarks during a joint press statement in Brussels ahead of his meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa, where the two discussed Albania’s progress in EU talks, regional developments, and preparations for the upcoming European Political Community Summit on May 16.

“I’m very pleased to be here with the President of the European Council, whose wisdom and attention to our country and region I deeply value,” Rama said. “Today is a very good day for us, as we are opening another set of chapters. I am also very grateful to the President for taking the time to discuss the progress we are making in this process.”

Rama described the upcoming summit as highly significant, particularly in the current geopolitical context.

“We will also discuss the region, to which the President is particularly committed. There’s a lot to talk about, but overall I’m very encouraged by these developments,” he added.

The prime minister emphasized that Albania is “deeply committed” to meeting all obligations under the EU accession calendar, aiming to conclude negotiations by 2027.
