Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday called for the country’s diplomats to intensify efforts to secure European Union membership, saying their full commitment was crucial to achieving what he described as a “historic goal.”
Speaking at a three-day conference of Albanian ambassadors, Rama said the meeting came at a decisive moment in the country’s long-running EU accession bid. He said all diplomatic missions, whether in Brussels or other capitals, should focus entirely on advancing the process.
“Our success depends on completing negotiations and ensuring ratification in all 27 member state parliaments,” Rama told delegates. He said the next four years would be critical and “not a single day should be wasted” as Albania prepares for the European Council’s upcoming decision on membership.
Rama noted that negotiations were held bilaterally with the European Commission, but added that the “overall atmosphere” surrounding them also mattered, citing past experience.
He stressed the importance of diplomatic engagement in key European capitals to maintain positive ties with policymakers and public opinion.
Rama said Albania’s international profile was stronger than ever, describing the country as “a rising, developing nation and a trusted regional partner” whose reputation should be leveraged in every international forum.
