A loud noise from the engine of an Air Horizont Boeing 737 during landing caused concern at Corfu airport late on Monday, prompting the airport fire service to mobilize, Greek state broadcaster ERT reported.
Emergency crews were placed on standby in case of fire, but no intervention was ultimately required, the report said.
The incident comes two days after a separate engine problem triggered an alert over the island’s airspace. On Saturday, a Condor Boeing 757 bound for Düsseldorf experienced an engine fire shortly after takeoff.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang, which authorities attributed to a sudden loss of power or an internal explosion in the propulsion system. The crew followed safety protocols and diverted the aircraft to Brindisi airport in southern Italy, where it landed safely.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
