Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban criticized a Bosnian court ruling against Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik on Thursday, saying there is “no place for witch hunts in a democracy.”

In a post on social media platform X, Orban said it was time for all sides to respect the will of the people of Republika Srpska, who elected Dodik to lead the Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The comment came hours after Bosnia’s Court of Appeals upheld a one-year prison sentence and a six-year ban on Dodik holding political office, over his refusal to comply with decisions issued by international High Representative Christian Schmidt. Republika Srpska authorities do not recognize Schmidt’s authority.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić also reacted to the ruling, saying his country’s National Security Council would convene to formulate a response.
