Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Israel’s expansionist policies represent the main security threat to the Middle East, accusing the Israeli government of pursuing what he described as aggressive and unlawful actions across the region.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Ankara, Erdoğan said recent developments had once again demonstrated that regional instability is being fueled by the policies of the current Israeli government.

“Israeli aggression has once again shown that the main security problem for our region is the expansionist, lawless, and norm-defying policies of the current government,” Erdoğan said.

He added that Türkiye and Algeria share a common position on ending the cycle of violence threatening regional peace and stability.

Algerian President Tebboune also condemned Israeli actions, criticizing what he described as violations of international humanitarian law and attacks in Lebanon and Gaza.

“We condemn the Israeli occupation, its violations of international humanitarian law, its blatant attacks on Lebanon, and its barbaric practices in the Gaza Strip,” Tebboune said.

Earlier in the day, Erdoğan welcomed the Algerian leader at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, where the two presidents co-chaired a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting and attended a signing ceremony for bilateral agreements.

Erdoğan said Türkiye intends to deepen cooperation with Algeria in strategic sectors including energy, mining, transportation and agriculture.

He stressed that both countries are continuing long-term cooperation on energy supply security, especially in the natural gas sector.

Tebboune said Algeria and Türkiye are also seeking to diversify economic ties while preserving what he described as their shared historical heritage.
