The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Zagreb said urgent investigative actions were carried out on Wednesday across several Croatian counties as part of a probe into suspected corruption and fraud involving EU agricultural funds.

The investigation targets several Croatian citizens suspected of abuse of office and authority, accepting and giving bribes, subsidy fraud and document forgery, allegedly committed within a criminal organization and to the detriment of the European Union’s financial interests.

The urgent actions stem from a criminal investigation conducted by EPPO in cooperation with the Sisak-Moslavina Police Administration, with support from the National Police Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime, as well as police departments from Lika-Senj, Karlovac, Zagreb, and Virovitica-Podravina counties.

Further details will not be disclosed at this stage in order not to compromise the ongoing proceedings, EPPO said.

EPPO is the independent public prosecution office of the European Union responsible for investigating, prosecuting, and bringing to justice crimes against the EU’s financial interests.
