Sofia City Prosecutor Emilia Rusinova said on Monday that a series of unverified claims circulating in recent weeks were aimed at publicly discrediting her, as scrutiny intensifies over alleged misconduct involving senior judicial figures.
In a written statement sent to media, Rusinova said “inadmissible qualifications” and insinuations had been spread in a way that distorted facts and created public pressure.
“The sole purpose is my public discrediting,” she said, adding that she would not engage in what she described as a media-driven narrative replacing institutional procedures.
Rusinova urged anyone with evidence of wrongdoing to submit it through legal channels, warning that public speculation undermines due process.
She also rejected allegations that she had mediated or arranged meetings with individuals linked to controversial cases, calling such claims untrue.
“I will cooperate fully, but only within the framework of a lawful investigation,” she said, adding she would refrain from further public comments until any checks are completed.
The statement comes amid heightened attention on Bulgaria’s judiciary and broader concerns over transparency and accountability in the legal system.
Rusinova said she had taken steps to defend her rights and reputation.
