President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told Russian President Vladimir Putin that Türkiye opposes attacks on Iran as well as Tehran’s retaliatory actions against countries in the region, during a phone call on Friday, Turkish diplomatic sources said.
The two leaders discussed bilateral ties alongside regional and global developments, according to the sources.
Erdoğan warned that attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea risk undermining regional stability and said the conflict involving Iran should not open a new front linked to the war in Ukraine.
He also said that policies pursued by the Israeli government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be restrained, adding that steps that could undermine the status of Jerusalem must be prevented.
Türkiye has positioned itself as opposing further escalation in the region while calling for restraint from all sides, as tensions involving Iran and Western-backed actors continue to rise.
