The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is reshaping travel patterns among Bulgarian tourists, with many shifting bookings toward European destinations, according to a report by Bulgarian National Television (BNT).

Travel agencies in Bulgaria report increased demand for classic European holidays such as Italy and Spain ahead of the Easter period, as concerns over regional security and flight disruptions influence consumer behavior.

Tour operators say interest in long-haul destinations including Dubai, the Maldives, Bali and Australia has declined, with some travellers opting to postpone or cancel trips due to uncertainty linked to the conflict zone and altered flight routes.

The report cited industry representatives as saying that higher fuel costs and longer flight paths, caused by avoidance of conflict areas around Israel and Iran, could lead to increased prices for travel packages.

Some travellers also reported changing plans at short notice due to concerns about safety for family members currently in the Gulf region.

Tour operators are working to redirect customers toward alternative destinations within Europe and to minimise financial losses from existing bookings, according to the broadcaster.

However, industry representatives said it is still too early to predict the full extent of potential price increases for holiday packages.
