Serbian Interior Minister and Socialist Party leader Ivica Dačić remains in serious but stable condition after being hospitalised with bilateral pneumonia, a senior doctor treating him said on Thursday.

Dr. Spasoje Popević, assistant director of the Pulmonology Clinic at the Clinical Centre of Serbia, told reporters that Dačić’s health had not worsened since the previous update and that medical staff were continuing intensive treatment. Dačić is on mechanical ventilation and remains under close observation.

Popević said it was too early to predict Dačić’s recovery timeline but noted that his condition was marginally more stable than earlier. The doctor also appealed for media sensitivity toward the minister’s family.

Dačić, who also serves as deputy prime minister, was admitted to the Clinical Centre’s Pulmonology Clinic on Wednesday after being diagnosed with pneumonia affecting both lungs. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić visited him at the hospital and described the situation as serious.

Serbian authorities have provided periodic updates on Dačić’s condition since his admission, underscoring the high-profile nature of his illness amid ongoing government business.
