Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK) has completed its investigation into the hacking of its computer systems and formally sent three individuals, including the former head of the Albanian prison service, to trial.
The accused are Arnold Rrokaj, former head of the Territorial Protection Inspectorate, Zambak Gjoni, a former prison official in Vlora, and Agim Ismaili, former director of the Albanian prison system. SPAK said the case involves the illegal interception and distribution of investigative data from its email servers.
According to prosecutors, Rrokaj obtained confidential investigative files from SPAK and provided them to Ismaili, who then disseminated the information further. The action has been characterized by SPAK as a coordinated effort to compromise the integrity of ongoing investigations.
The prosecutor’s office filed the case with the Special Court of First Instance, and the three are now formally facing trial.
SPAK, established to tackle corruption and organized crime, has increasingly targeted officials involved in abuse of office. The hacking case marks one of the most significant internal security breaches in recent years, raising concerns about the protection of sensitive judicial and prosecutorial information in Albania.
