A 22-year-old Turkish citizen was killed with a knife in Skopje’s Old Bazaar, and another Turkish national was seriously injured, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred outside a hospitality venue at around 1:11 a.m. on January 1, 2026, with both individuals suffering stab wounds. A paramedic pronounced A.M.D. (22) dead at the scene, while C.E. (23) was taken to the “Mother Teresa” Clinical Center in critical condition.
Interior Minister Panche Toshkoski said the New Year’s Eve period in North Macedonia was mostly peaceful, with two serious incidents reported, including the stabbing and the hospitalization of a two-year-old child in life-threatening condition under unclear circumstances.
Toshkoski added that a suspect in the stabbing case remains at large, and that several individuals were involved, all reportedly foreign nationals.
