Türkiye will participate in an international task force overseeing the implementation of the newly agreed Gaza ceasefire, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday, pledging Ankara’s support for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in the enclave.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025–2026 academic year in Ankara, Erdogan said urgent priorities included humanitarian aid delivery, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, and an immediate halt to Israeli military operations.

“Our aim is to halt the genocide in Gaza and bring peace to the region as quickly as possible,” he said, adding that “no one in the world deserves peace, security, and stability more than the people of Gaza.”

The remarks came hours after Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, based on a 20-point plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Under the first phase of the plan, both sides agreed to an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages and prisoners, a gradual Israeli withdrawal from agreed positions in Gaza, and the entry of humanitarian aid. The accord also includes provisions for international reconstruction support.

Negotiations in the Red Sea city involved senior officials from Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, and the United States.

“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first phase of our Peace Plan,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform, thanking Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye for their mediation efforts.
