Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that ties between Türkiye and the United States would strengthen during Donald Trump’s second term in office, expressing confidence in bilateral cooperation and a shared trade ambition.
Speaking at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Erdogan cited a personal rapport with Trump as a key factor in boosting relations between the two NATO allies.
“I believe that our relations with the U.S. will flourish in every field during President Trump’s second term, also with the contribution of our close friendship with him,” Erdogan said, according to Anadolu Agency.
Erdogan said Türkiye remained committed to mitigating the risks of global trade disputes, particularly those driven by rising protectionism and customs tariffs.
“We are doing everything we can to prevent the heated trade competition through customs tariffs from becoming destructive. Türkiye will be one of the winners of this process,” he said.
The president reiterated Ankara’s long-standing goal of raising bilateral trade with Washington to $100 billion, calling it a top priority in economic ties.
“We attach great importance to our goal of reaching a $100 billion trade target with our ally and strategic partner, the U.S.,” Erdogan said.
