Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Wednesday that, unlike many other countries, Serbia has never used force, including acoustic or sound weapons, against protesters.
Following a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy in Belgrade, Vučić stated that he would not comment on protests in the UK out of respect for its sovereignty but emphasized that Serbia had demonstrated how democracy is upheld.
“I am proud to say that, unlike most countries in the EU and worldwide, Serbia has never used force against demonstrators who violate the law daily. We have heard numerous false claims about the use of acoustic or sound weapons, but such measures were never deployed. We are confident that intelligence agencies have precise data confirming this,” Vučić said at a press conference.
He stressed that Serbia has safeguarded democracy through maturity and patience, ensuring peace and stability, and will continue to do so.
“We are certain that the UK and other countries could follow Serbia’s example in the future—handling demonstrations without violence or force. For instance, when protesters storm the BBC, they could be treated the same way we treat those who enter our public broadcaster, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS),” Vučić added.
