Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said a decision on whether Serbia will hold elections will be made within about 10 days, describing the vote as a “moment of truth” for the country.
Speaking on TV Informer, Vučić said there were “no traps” when it comes to elections and that citizens would decide what kind of future they want.
“Elections are a moment of truth for everyone in this job, but above all they are a question of the country’s future and the future of its people,” Vučić said.
He said he was preparing a policy text that would be published in the coming days, adding that Serbia must adjust its economic and political direction because of changing global circumstances.
Inflation and prices
Vučić said Serbia’s inflation rate stood at 3.3% last month, lower than in many European Union countries, citing state controls on fuel prices as one reason prices had not risen more sharply.
He said medicine prices had increased the most on an annual basis and criticised officials who, in his view, failed to act quickly enough to control them.
Portal for reporting officials
Vučić also announced plans to open an online portal where citizens will be able to report arrogant or abusive behaviour by public officials.
He said the system would target those who misuse status, avoid queues, park improperly or act as if they are above ordinary citizens.
China visit
Vučić said an upcoming state visit to China would be one of the most important of his political career.
He said talks would focus on robotics, artificial intelligence, military-technical cooperation, economic ties, infrastructure and education reform.
According to Vučić, Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected within a month to receive Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and him.
