Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Wednesday that his administration has built nearly as many highways and express roads in the past decade as all previous governments combined since World War Two.

Speaking to citizens in Požarevac, Vučić highlighted recent infrastructure achievements, noting that from December to February, Serbia opened a total of 122 kilometers of highways and express roads.

“From December 23 until tomorrow, we will have opened 122 kilometers of highways and express roads: 54.5 kilometers from Šabac to Loznica, 30 kilometers of the Morava Corridor, 5.8 kilometers near Lajkovac, and tomorrow we are opening an additional 31.85 kilometers toward Požarevac,” Vučić said.

Opening such an extensive road network in a short period is “almost unbelievable,” he added.

“From 1945 to 2014, Serbia built a total of 596 kilometers of highways and express roads. With tomorrow’s opening, we will have completed 589 kilometers in just 10 to 11 years—only seven kilometers less than the total built during the eras of Tito, Milošević, and the DOS government combined,” Vučić stated.

He stressed that his government has no plans to slow down. “We will continue to build—beyond Požarevac to Gradište, complete the bypass around Golubac, and extend further toward Brza Palanka, Kladovo, and Negotin,” Vučić said.
