British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Wednesday urged Kosovo and Serbia to advance towards normalization and lasting peace, underscoring London’s commitment to Kosovo’s stability.

Speaking in Pristina after talks with President Vjosa Osmani, Lammy called for swift government formation in Kosovo to ensure engagement in EU-led dialogue with Serbia.

“We want sustainable and peaceful normalization between Kosovo and Serbia,” Lammy said. “The UK is a key contributor to KFOR, and I will visit again. It is crucial for your security, and I hope the next government addresses the needs of all citizens, including integration of Kosovo Serbs.”

Osmani, in her remarks, said Kosovo remained committed to dialogue and stability despite what she described as provocations from Serbia. She called for accountability over a September 2023 attack involving Serbian forces.

“Kosovo remains a constructive party, committed to peace and stability, despite continued obstructions and provocations from Serbia,” Osmani said. “It is essential that Serbia holds accountable those responsible for the aggression in September 2023, the attack on NATO soldiers, and recent actions in northern Kosovo.”

Osmani also proposed enhancing strategic cooperation with Britain, particularly in defense and economic ties.

“I have proposed signing an agreement to deepen our strategic cooperation, especially in defense and economy,” she said. “Today, we had extensive discussions on strengthening these ties, which will continue at the working level.”

Lammy reiterated Britain’s support for Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, including its bid for Council of Europe membership.

“It is important to see Kosovo making progress on its Euro-Atlantic journey,” he said. “The Berlin Process is crucial for regional integration with Europe, and the UK will support Kosovo’s efforts in the coming months.”

Lammy arrived in Pristina on Tuesday evening, meeting with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and members of his cabinet. His visit is part of a broader Western Balkans tour, which includes stops in other regional capitals.
