The Development Road Project jointly led by Türkiye and Iraq will significantly boost regional stability and prosperity, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday following talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Ankara.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Erdogan said both sides aimed to accelerate cooperation on key issues, including the resumption of oil flows via the Iraq-Türkiye Oil Pipeline.
“We want to make swift progress on resuming oil shipments through the pipeline,” Erdogan said, adding that both countries had reaffirmed their commitment to fighting terrorism.
“We reiterated our determination to continue combating the PKK, FETO, and DAESH, which threaten not only Türkiye’s national security but also Iraq’s,” he said, referring to Kurdish militants, the Gulenist network, and Islamic State.
On rising tensions between Pakistan and India, Erdogan said Ankara was engaged in efforts to help defuse the situation. “We are working to prevent this crisis from reaching the point of no return, despite attempts by some to escalate it,” he said.
Iraq’s Prime Minister al-Sudani said the Development Road Project represents a strategic opportunity to deepen economic integration and infrastructure connectivity between the two countries.
