Proposals for the sustainable development of small Greek islands will be the focus of the 2nd International Conference “Smart Islands,” scheduled for September 20-21 on the island of Kastellorizo. The event is being organized by the International Hellenic Association (IHA) in collaboration with the Municipalities of Megisti, Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, Kalymnos, and Kifissia.
Held under the auspices of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece, the conference aims to foster a multi-level dialogue between residents, local authorities, government representatives, the academic community, and the diaspora. Discussions will center on pressing issues facing Greek islands, including energy, water, education, and healthcare.
The event follows the success of the 1st International Conference on “Smart Islands,” held in 2024 in Pserimos, which was also organized by the IHA in cooperation with the Municipalities of Voula-Vari-Vouliagmeni and Kifissia.
The IHA, a non-profit and non-partisan organization based in the United States, works to support Greece and Hellenism on national and cultural matters. The conference’s focus on local government bodies stems from their practical engagement with the issues at hand, IHA said.
